President Macron to Moroccan Parliament: His Majesty the King Embodies ‘Continuity of One of World’s Oldest Dynasties, One of Facets of Modernity’

MabesNews.com, Rabat – Since ascending the Throne more than 25 years ago, His Majesty King Mohammed VI has embodied “the continuity of one of the oldest dynasties in the world, and one of the facets of industrial and technological modernity,” declared H.E. Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, in a speech before the Moroccan Parliament on Tuesday (29/10/2024).

“25 years have passed since His Majesty became the Sovereign of the Kingdom of Morocco, embodying the continuity of one of the world’s oldest dynasties and one of the faces of industrial and technological modernity,” stressed the French President, in his speech to members of both Houses of Parliament, meeting in a joint session.

As one of the world’s oldest monarchies, he continued, the Kingdom of Morocco “is moving forward with confidence; the confidence it has in itself and in its King, the awareness given by its long history and the energy of its large youth, fully committed to accompanying its emergence.”

He also stressed that the tolerant Islam promoted by His Majesty the King, Commander of the Faithful, “forms a challenge to all forms of extremism.” This “wealth” of Morocco “is even more precious and worthy of respect at a time when our world is torn apart by intolerance and war,” he said.

“Facing us, for the next quarter century, are all the stakes and all the possibilities,” said the French President, the day after the signing of the Declaration on the ‘Enhanced Exceptional Partnership’ between the Kingdom of Morocco and the French Republic.

This Declaration, signed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Macron, should enable the two countries to respond more effectively to all the challenges facing them, by involving all the relevant sectors of bilateral, regional and international cooperation.

In his speech, President Macron affirmed that the “enlightened vision” of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and the achievements of the first 25 years of his reign, are “an invitation to look to the future.”
“As you have understood, this is what I have come to do alongside you and with you,” Macron told the members of the two Houses of Parliament.

“May this State visit mark the opening of this new book in our long-shared history, which will enable our two nations to move forward with determination in this uncertain century, but which needs the richness of our friendship”, pleaded Macron, currently on a State visit to the Kingdom from October 28 to 30 at the invitation of HM the King.

“You are also the representatives of a people who, through the will of their Sovereign, have placed diversity, dialogue and tolerance at the heart of their identity, their institutions and their constitution,” Macron told the representatives of the Nation.
